Light of the World

When we hear the phrase, light of the world, we most likely think of Jesus, which is understandable because He is. (Jn. 8:12) Jesus is speaking to the crowd and He says, “I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” In (Jn. 9:5) Jesus says ” As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” As one thinks on this passage in the bible and looks around at this world, one might think that Jesus is not in this world anymore, because this world is full of immense darkness and evil. It seems to be growing darker everyday. This is because of the evil one, whom the bible calls “the god of this world” (II Cor. 4:4). Satan is busy doing what he does ; steal, kill and destroy (Jn. 10:10). Let’s look again at (II Cor. 4:4) , Paul is writing to the church in Corinth. He says starting in verse 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God should shine unto them. When we read this scripture, it reveals to us the worst kind of darkness, it is blindness. Now let’s look at our earlier scripture in (Jn. 9:5). This is the account where Jesus heals the man born blind. Jesus opened the mans physical eyes so he could see, but at the end of the chapter He did even a greater work for the man. Jesus opened the eyes of the mans heart, where he could see that He was the Son of God! This is what Paul is referring to when he said the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believed not. I don’t think, or believe I should say, that darkness has overtaken the world. I believe there is just an absence of light! Now let’s look at some more scripture to explain what I mean. In (I Jn. 4: 15-17) it says 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 Herein is our love made perfect that we may have boldness in the day of judgement: because as He is, so are we in this world. In (Jn. 14:12) Jesus says, Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. In (Matt. 5:14-15) Jesus says, 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bush, but on a candlestick: and it giveth light to all that are in the house. In these scriptures I believe it is plain to see that Jesus is still in this world. He is here in the form of His body. The body of Christ, which is us the born again believing ones. I believe the issue is we have allowed the light to be hid under a bush through complacency. It is time to arise in the power and authority of our Lord! Let me close this with one more scripture. (Matt. 5:16) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. If we do this the darkness will be dispelled in this world, and the light of Gods kingdom will be seen by all. PRAISE BE TO JESUS !!!
