Mat 6:28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
Mat 6:29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Brother Jim’s Understanding:
And why are you anxious and fearful concerning the clothing you will wear? Note carefully and learn thoroughly from the lilies of the field, the way they grow; they absolutely do not work hard, neither do they draw out threads and make clothing:
And yet I say to you, that not even Solomon in all his splendor and magnificence was adorned like one of these.
Dear Precious Child Of GOD, are you anxious and even fearful concerning the clothing you will wear? Are you worried that your clothes are worn out or that your children are growing out of their clothes so fast even hand-me-downs do not last long enough? Are you concerned about appearing to always be dressed in rags? Please think within yourself and deeply reflect in your heart and mind, “Why?”
It is not my intention to belittle; I do understand the situation having once lived in a house that was literally falling down around me, my wife, and my (at that time) two small children. Going to yard sales with $5 in our pockets seemed like a sacrifice to buy our children clothes while working minimum wage jobs. Precious Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus, I do understand the situation. So let us ask ourselves, why are we so anxious and fearful in such situations?
Our LORD Jesus Christ draws our attention to the lilies of the field, so let us consider the lilies, or any flower you find particularly pleasing to behold. Do you ever go out walking or driving and come upon flowers that grab your attention in such a way that they bring a smile to your face, and possibly a moment of pleasing peace to your soul?
Carefully consider these flowers. How beautiful they appear. They are rooted in the ground and don’t go anywhere. Their roots grow into the soil; the deeper and better spread the roots, the stronger the plant. Their roots feed on the nutrients in the soil. Do we stand upon our Rock and draw spiritual nutrition from His WORD as the flowers do from the soil? They grow a little every day until mature. They feed continuously, and they are beautiful. They don’t strive to work, and they don’t even work at making their own clothes.
Further consider, that in their beauty, even Solomon who was the wisest of men (except LORD Jesus), even Solomon who was not only the wisest, but was so wealthy that silver was as abundant in Jerusalem as stones, not even this King Solomon was adorned as beautifully as these wonderful flowers. They just exist, being continually fed and clothed by Almighty GOD. They stay still and receive sunlight and rain, the Presence and Blessings of Almighty GOD. Did they do anything to earn or deserve such? No, they are just still, in the Presence Of GOD and receive from Him. Could we not learn a very important lesson from them?
Psa 46:10a Be still, and know that I am God:
A very simple lesson. One which we truly need to learn, take deeply to heart, and live continuously.
All Scripture is given in the King James Version, 1769.
