Seek First The Kingdom Of GOD: Two Masters – Mammon And The Strong Man

Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Brother Jim’s Understanding:

1) Nobody, not one single man or one single woman, has ability to bind himself or be bound as a servant or slave to two supreme masters or authorities: for either you will greatly dislike, detest, and abhor the one and you will love and enjoy serving the other; or else you will adhere to the one and disregard with contempt the other. You absolutely cannot (are not able to) serve and be led by GOD, and serve and be led by a covetous and insatiable greedy lust for wealth and its power at the same time.

2) It is not possible for any man or any woman, not even one man or woman, to serve or be a servant to two masters: for either you will greatly desire to ignore the one while greatly desiring to serve the other; or you will strive to closely stick to the one while striving to escape the other. It is absolutely impossible to be a committed servant and worshiper of GOD and to also serve with commitment, worship, and idolize wealth and its power.

Dear Reader, please consider the following and ask yourself, who would be considered the strong man?

1. A violent, oppressive, and overbearing ruler who has been stripped of his armor and authority?

2. A person trained up by the teacher sent by the king who defeated the violent, oppressive, and overbearing ruler, and wearing armor designed by the victorious king?

I submit to you that now that our LORD Jesus Christ has victoriously defeated Satan by His death on the Cross, His Resurrection, His Ascension to the Right Hand of our Father, and has sent Holy Spirit to teach, train, lead, comfort, and strengthen us, and given us the full armor of GOD we are now the strong man; made strong by grace through faith in our LORD Jesus Christ and by Holy Spirit.

Holy Scripture teaches us:

Neh 8:10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

Psa 18:1-2 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said, I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. 2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Psa 27:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psa 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Eph 6:10-11 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Do these Verses from Holy Scripture not describe a strong man (male or female)? Who is truly the strong man, the devil who has been defeated or the one in whom the Spirit of GOD dwells? And again, is the strong man the devil who has been defeated by our LORD Jesus Christ or the one who by the Spirit of GOD is strong in the LORD, and in the power of His might, who has on the whole armour of GOD?

Holy Spirit, through Peter, has expressly warned us to be sober and vigilant because our adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, is walking about looking for victims to devour. He goes about roaring, attempting to frighten and scare the people of GOD; making them afraid of him by getting them to doubt GOD and His WORD, trying to get them to separate themselves from Almighty GOD WHO IS their Strength.

1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

However, when we are abiding in Christ Jesus, filled with, baptized in, and led by Holy Spirit we are too strong for Satan to destroy; too strong for him to come into our house and spoil the life we have in Christ Jesus.

So what does Satan, the enemy of our souls, do?

Joh 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Mat 12:29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

Mar 3:27 No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.

Satan comes only to steal, kill, and destroy, but he must first find a way to bind us. When we are wisely following Holy Spirit and staying rooted and grounded in the WORD of GOD we recognize the attacks of Satan; he is not able to just come in to our house, spoil our house and our goods, and devour us. However, Satan has experience in dealing with us and knows at times we become complacent. Satan knows the weaknesses, desires, and lusts of man, and knows how to exploit those weaknesses, desires, and lusts. Which brings us back to:

1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Remember from Seek First The Kingdom Of GOD: Two Masters – The Deification Of Mammon that the ‘love of money’ is avarice, or Mammon. Mammon is a sly devil in the pursuit of our soul. Mammon understands how to sow seeds and use roots to slowly bind us up so that we eventually become defenseless so that he and Satan may come in and spoil our house and our goods, wreck our relationship with GOD our Father, wreck our relationships with each other, wreck our health, and wreck our lives; killing us whenever possible. He cannot get GOD to leave us or forsake us, ever, so he works at binding and blinding us so that we will leave GOD. Mammon is so patient he will work so slowly at times we will never even be aware of his presence, unless we are vigilant in the WORD of GOD and in following Holy Spirit, until we find ourselves lost, seemingly alone, and in dire straits.

How does Mammon do this? Mammon sows seed into our minds. Seeds of doubt and unbelief. Seeds of the ‘world’s way’ of seeing, doing, and believing; after all, it’s how everyone else thinks and believes, its only normal. These seeds are tiny little thoughts that we often just pass off and try to ignore. Seeds that Mammon plants dozens, and even hundreds of each day if possible. Yes, we try to ignore those thoughts, but just ignoring them does not do the job, and eventually we find ourselves repeating those thoughts of doubt and unbelief and unrighteousness as though they were our own; thus sowing them into our hearts, and sowing them over time in abundance. Mammon eventually has grown such a crop of doubt, unbelief, and the cares of this world that he has choked the WORD of GOD right out of our hearts and we don’t even realize what is going on, or that it has already happened.

Mammon slowly binds us up. Sometimes he uses gentle lies. Other times he uses temptation. Mammon will magnify the voices of the world around us to cunningly persuade us to desire something. Truly, I tell you, Mammon is in our face, in our ears, and speaking to us every day; sometimes all day. We get so used to the thoughts that we often dismiss them as our own, when in fact, it is the voice of Mammon calling to us.

Do any of the following sound familiar?:

  • I wish I had just a little more money.
  • I wish I could make a little more money.
  • They sure have a nice car. I wish I had one.
  • Wow, their house is so much nicer than mine.
  • I wish I had better clothes to wear.
  • I wish I could buy nicer things for my family.
  • I wish I could buy more nice things for my wife and kids, they deserve better.
  • Maybe I should start putting in some overtime, then I could afford better things for me and my family.
  • Maybe I should start working Saturdays. Just a little more money would really be helpful.
  • Working a few Sundays wouldn’t hurt, then I could get…
  • I wish I had more time for my family, but I have to work more to take care of them.
  • It would be nice if …

Just one occasional thought every once in a great while. Truly, GOD wants the best for you, however, there is a difference between seeking the blessings of GOD and seeking the GOD of blessings. Often we will seek a blessing from GOD, and our main focus will be the blessing and not GOD. We even try helping GOD get us the blessings (the things) we want by our own natural effort, because after all, GOD could use our help, right?

We must understand that GOD blesses us because He loves us. But where do our true affections lie? Do we love GOD, or do we want to manipulate Him into giving us what we want, what we desire, what we covet, what we love…?

The occasional thought seems harmless, but can be devastating when it runs its full course. The thought may seem to come out of nowhere. Then it will pop up with slowly increasing frequency. Eventually it will multiply, drawing our attention to something seemingly harmless; in reality, the object likely is harmless, but the desire Mammon is slowly building for the object can be devastating, and ultimately destroy us. We find ourselves looking for the things we desire and ways to acquire them.

Mammon also has servants working for him, some of them unwittingly. They are called marketers, salesmen, and advertisers. These advertisements and enticements are constantly telling us how life would be so much better if we just used this toothpaste. We could have the man or woman of our dreams if we would just use a certain deodorant. We would be so much more attractive to the opposite gender if we just drove a certain car. Do you want a bigger, nicer house? They can help you find it, after all your family deserves the best.

When will we ever learn to be happy? When will we ever have enough? Never! Because there is always more, nicer, and bigger to be had. After all, we deserve it. Our family deserves it! Eventually we spend our entire lives working to get it only to find out we have worked so hard and so much to provide things for our family that our family has lost us to work, to slavery to Mammon, and we have lost our precious families. We look back over our lives only to see we were always working for more things and ended up ignoring the family we love in order to provide them with ‘things’ instead of giving ourselves and our love to them; instead of being the example of someone who seeks first the Kingdom of GOD and His Righteousness that they truly needed. And now, our children are grown up and making the exact same mistake, living in the exact same sin; just like we modeled for them. GOD help us! GOD help our children!!! And their children!!!

How do we prevent this? How do we stop Mammon from planting such seed in our minds and in our hearts?

2Co 10:5-6 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

Let’s do a quick ‘Brother Jim’s Understanding’ of these verses.

Violently demolish conceptions, mental images, reasoning, ideas, and every elevated thought and barrier that raises itself up in enmity and opposition to knowing the truth of GOD, and forcefully making a prisoner of war every perception, thought, and purpose to the attentive compliance and submission of the Anointed Messiah; and possessing a fitness and eager willingness of mind to vindicate, retaliate against, and punish all inattention, neglect, non-compliance, and refusal to obey GOD when your attentiveness, compliance and submission to GOD is made replete (abundantly full), fully satisfied, and successfully executed. (2 Corinthians 10:5-6, Brother Jim’s Understanding)

We are to violently demolish (pull down, raze, destroy) any thought, any imagination, and every thing that comes to our mind that would lift itself up above or against the truth of the WORD of GOD. Every thought is to be taken captive to the obedience of Christ Jesus our LORD.

Understand, dear reader, it is by believing in our hearts that GOD raised Jesus Christ from the dead, and confessing with our mouth the LORD Jesus Christ that we are saved. We are confessing that Jesus Christ is The Supreme Authority over us; He is The Divine Controller and Lawgiver of the Kingdom we choose to live in. Any thought, any imagination, any desire, any picture that may come to mind that is not in compliance with the WORD of GOD Who was made flesh in the person of our LORD Jesus Christ is a temptation to violate the Lordship of our LORD Jesus Christ; and a temptation to live as much less than Almighty GOD created us to be.

Know, dear reader, it is not GOD who tempts you.

Jas 1:12-17 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

It is the thief who comes but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. The above Holy Spirit inspired Holy Scripture tells us exactly how the thief does his work. It is our LORD Jesus Christ Who has come that we might have Life, and that we might have Life not just abundantly, but more abundantly.

Joh 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

So, precious and beloved reader, will you abide in our LORD Jesus Christ, His Holy Word, and Holy Spirit? It is your choice. Nobody can make this choice or execute this choice for you. Almighty GOD won’t even violate the free will He has blessed you with to make your own choice; not even if it requires Him to watch you walk away from His absolute Love for you. Will you violently reject every thought the enemy of your soul sends your way? Every thought, every idea, and every imagination the enemy of your soul tempts you with, attempting to get you to accept the thoughts, ideas, and imaginations as your own?

Please, dear reader, consider the thoughts that ‘pass through your mind’. Sift your thoughts carefully making sure they are your own, and making sure they are in agreement with the WORD of our Holy GOD, Our Savior, Our LORD Jesus Christ. Holy Father and our LORD Jesus Christ have sent Holy Spirit here, to this very earth for the express purpose of being the Perfect Helper, Perfect Teacher, and Perfect Comforter to guide us into all Truth. Ask daily for His Holy Help, and learn to rely upon Him.

All Scripture is given in the King James Bible, 1769.

Bold emphasis to Holy Scripture is added.
